Just FYI, folks. This blog can now be found on Technorati.com
So, here I am... in the blogosphere.
That name really doesn't do it justice. It seems to suggest I am somewhere else, like the Planet Blog or something, bouncing along in low gravity. But here I am, sitting in front of my iMac on boring old Earth.
Obviously I would like to start this blog off with a bang, just like my old Western Front column, but honestly, I just want to make sure the system works.
If you can't tell by the logo somewhere on this page, this blog is "Powered by b2evolution," that is to say it is 2 megs of PHP files that I don't have time (or the skill) to write or mess with, running on a server that is probably in Utah that gets its electricity from the Hoover Dam. That logo is a lie: this blog is powered on hydro.
[adsense:]
I worked with b2evolution while working at the Bellingham Herald, and again for this guy who runs oblivionscorner.com . Needless to say, I know my way around it fairly well, or I would if I hadn't of downloaded the new version, which I'm not used to.
Starting this blog feels a little weird. The reason is I am going to have to design a skin that looks and feels like I want it to, not necessarily like what a client wants.
Trouble is, I've always had a client when I design Web sites, meaning I always have someone to appease. Now, I have no one to appease but myself.
If you are reading this post in the far future, I want you to know that the site design you are looking at is a personal expression of who I am. I don't know what that is at the time of writing, but hopefully I will.
Don't expect any new posts for a long while. I won't be writing again until I have a design I am comfortable with. Until then, loyal readers, sit back, relax and enjoy the finer things in life, like friends, family, sitting by the fire trading stories, or just sitting around on the internet flying around the blogosphere.
Hey, you could do a lot worse.
